Sri Lankan Ads Scam – Must Read
Sri Lankan Ads industry is totally up side down nowadays. As Sri Lankan media reports (Neth Fm Balumgala – 22-12-2017), tricky online marketers are all over the island and they sell worthless digital services without any guarantee. Why this is happening? Since 2010, Sri Lanka is going fast to another digital generation with an outdated digital law.
As we know, it is really hard to control humans without a proper law. Digital environment is a virtual space where nobody can touch each other. Only IP addresses and Ports but they are also dynamic. Sri Lankan government has no idea what they are digging right now. Why they are even never tried to change current law?
An Idea From A Big Fish in Sri Lankan Ads Industry
Bu.lk is one of silent, but growing ads platform in Sri Lanka. They never try third party advertising and they are everywhere in Google. As they inform, this growing mafia can make several side effects to genuine sri lankan ads providers who are in digital market.
Further, the General Manager of Bu.lk forecast that most of Sri Lankan online businesses can move to other countries due to this lack of government protection, financial problems (Like PayPal unavailability) and other problems.
How can we protect our business from fake advertising?
It’s really simple as ABC. You can make identify fake advertisers and real advertisers by this simple trick. But be careful always, do not get decisions from your heart. Here we go!
- Ask for the Business Registration number and the company name from the marketer. And search their business name in company registry here. Don’t worry, every Sri Lankan companies are registered there. It is the government website.
- If they have a domain name, specially *.lk domain name, check their registered company name in LK domain registry here. They must show the company name of their domain. If it is not *.LK domain, then search it in WHOIS data here.
Most of domain owners can be traced using some technical tricks (I will not write here by considering security issues). I will post more guides here soon. Till that, please be careful and have a good business!
